Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon returns to the Billboard Vinyl Albums and Top Album Sales ... More charts this week, despite a drop in sales. (Photo by Koh Hasebe/Shinko Music/Getty Images) It’s rare for The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd to fall off the Billboard charts entirely. At some times, it lands on multiple rankings, and in other instances, it ekes out just enough purchases to appear on one or two tallies. Last frame, one of the bestselling albums of all time in America was pushed off the rankings by a slew of Record Store Day releases, making it the relatively uncommon moment when the set isn’t present on at least one roster. Now that almost all of those exclusive titles have vacated the competitive lists in the United States, there’s room once again for albums that can be relied on to appear almost every frame. That includes The Dark Side of the Moon . Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon Returns This week, the blockbuster release reappears on just two Billboard charts. The Dark Side of the Moon is back at No. 22 on the Vinyl Albums list. It also comes in at No. 30 on the Top Album Sales chart, which ranks all purchases, not just those on vinyl. Luminate reports that in the past tracking frame, The Dark Side of the Moon sold a little more than 2,600 copies in the U.S., though how those are spread between CDs and vinyl records was not shared by the music industry organization. That sum proved to be enough to bring the title back to both charts, although it’s actually down double digits from the previous period, when sales hovered just below 3,100 in total. A Classic That Keeps Selling For a project released several decades ago, The Dark Side of the Moon is still performing remarkably well. However, it’s not even one of the highest-rising returning favorites this week. The classic effort earns the twelfth loftiest reentry on the Top Album Sales chart and the fourteenth highest comeback on the vinyl-only roster. Never a No. 1 for Pink Floyd Despite its incredible popularity and enduring appeal, The Dark Side of the Moon has never reached No. 1 on either of the charts it returns to this frame. It has peaked at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums list and at No. 7 on the Top Album Sales ranking. It’s incredible that the collection has never managed even one turn at the top, especially considering the fact that it has now racked up 359 stays on the vinyl list and 510 turns — just shy of a full decade — on the Top Album Sales roster.
