Chair of UK Parliamentary Committee Calls for Ban on Cryptocurrency Political Donations
BlockBeats News, January 12th, according to TheBlock, seven chairs of UK parliamentary committees jointly wrote to the government, urging a full ban on cryptocurrency political donations in the upcoming "Elections Bill." Chairs including Liam Byrne of the Business Committee believe that cryptocurrency donations could undermine the transparency and traceability of political funding and expose UK politics to the risk of foreign intervention. This move has increased pressure on the Labour government, although the government considers cryptocurrency donations a risk to electoral integrity, the complexity of implementation may delay its inclusion in the bill in the short term. Reform UK became the first UK party to accept Bitcoin donations last year, with its leader Nigel Farage positioning this move as part of a broader "crypto revolution."
